There is certainly a lot more to becoming a safety officer on the USS Avandar, or any of the other posts within the fleet of UFOP: StarBase 118 than becoming a gun toting monkey. Courage, duty and honour are several of the traits an excellent security officer holds. Your day to day work life is going to be filled with action as you defend the ship from internal and external threats.
You may be called upon to escort an away team as they inspect an unknown or unfriendly vessel. Maybe you might be leading a team on a boarding mission to recover some stolen cargo or contraband. It might even be the situation that a person from your crew has been taken hostage or you will find some slaves that want to become freed.
Several of the duties you might be asked to do are a bit more interesting. There was an incident with Orions taking a ship making use of pheromone gas to control the officers, sending unwitting officers to the brig where they sealed themselves in and proceeded to have… a pajama party… Fortunately the group of security officers were able to help right the circumstance and extract the passed out and tangled bundle of limbs that was the ship’s crew from the jail.
If you are the patient or sharing kind you may find yourself in charge of coaching your fellow security and tactical crewmates. When you have a marine deployment working within your post or ship you might even find yourself training with them. All Star Trek Starfleet officers should have simple phaser and close combat attack and protection skills. Your team in all probability will not be too pleased when their evaluations are up again but they could possibly surprise you with their inventive procedures of solving hostile challenges.
